| Touvent is situated approximately 3 kms from both St Severin, and Aubeterre - the 'jewel of the Charente'. Both villages have a supermarket, pharmacy, restaurants, and, of course, baker! Aubeterre, officially one of the most beautiful villages in France, also has a lovely sandy river beach and a weekly market. Some 15 minutes drive away are the market towns of Chalais and Riberac. | ![]() |
| If you want to travel a little further - about an hours drive away is Cognac, really worth a visit and a tour round one of the cognac houses is a must! About the same distance south is St. Emilion and the vineyards of Bordeaux -a tour and wine-tasting is great fun. | ![]() |
| This part of France boasts the second highest temperatures and the highest hours of sunshine! (according to the weather centre in Cognac) As well as the really beautiful river beaches at nearby Aubeterre and St Aulaye with their children's playgrounds, waterslide, and beachside restaurants, there are some wonderful beaches on the Atlantic coast - probably about 2 hours drive away - good for a day trip. | ![]() |

Some 10 minutes drive from Touvent, just outside the village of Bonnes, is the wonderful "Cercle Hippique de Bonnes" where you can have a riding lesson in French, English or even Dutch! You can also hire a horse or pony out all day - the best way of exploring the really stunning local scenery. |
